GODWIN Antwi could be missing from the Hartlepool United line-up for up to a month.
The central defender, on loan from Liverpool, scored and impressed in Saturday's 2-1 home win over Doncaster Rovers.
But he was forced off in the closing stages after suffering a hamstring strain.
It was hoped he would be fit for Saturday's trip to Port Vale, but the diagnosis yesterday was not what manager Danny Wilson wanted to hear.
The injury means Ben Clark will return to action having been left out of the opening games.
And Wilson believes adding competition and strength in depth to his squad over the summer can only benefit his players.
"There is no longer a comfort zone at this club,'' he insisted. "If you have a comfort zone then you have problems and I don't think that we have that any more.
"Every player knows they have to be at their best if they want to be in the side - but I can assure everyone that we have a group of lads here who are all up for the challenge."
Pools go to Sheffield Wednesday for their Carling Cup round two tie next Tuesday, kick-off 7.45pm. Admission will be £10 and £5.
The Johnstone Paints Trophy round one game at Chesterfield takes place on September 4.
