In the Arngrove Northern League, newcomers Birtley are now top of the Second Division after coming from behind to win 3-2 at Prudhoe, writes RAY SIMPSON.
They led with an own goal at one point, but then Prudhoe hit back through Owen Peterson and Simon Reay to lead 2-1 at half-time. But Chris Heppell levelled from a John Sherlock pass, then Sherlock provided the pass for Jed Ramshaw to get the winner.
Stokesley were denied their first win of the season by a late penalty against Marske United. Craig Johnson headed Stokesley ahead, but Marske equalised with a last gasp penalty by Benn Thompson.
Newcastle Blue Star started life in the UniBond League with a 1-1 draw at Bamber Bridge, Lee Novak equalised in the last minute.
In the Premier division, Gateshead won 3-1. Graeme Armstrong equalised, then Steve Salvin headed them in front, and Wayne Phillips hit the third.
Whitby drew 1-1 with Buxton at the Turnbull Ground, Tom Adams scoring their goal.
Blyth drew 1-1 at Hinckley with Robbie Dale scoring a penalty.
