Darlington RA ran up their highest ever FA Cup score when they thumped Yorkshire Amateurs 6-0 in the extra preliminary round at Brinkburn Road on Saturday.
The RA appear to have put last season's relegation nightmare behind them, and manager David Woodcock said: "The players we have signed during the summer have made a really big difference. We scored a couple of goals that were really top quality, plus we've kept our second clean sheet - which is already the same number as last season. But we're not getting carried away."
The RA took the lead when Carl Pepper scored with a 25 yarder into the bottom corner, and at the start of the second half they scored four goals in 15 minutes. Steven Bell scored the second with an overhead kick from a Neil Tarrant cross into the top corner, and then Chris Creamer rounded the keeper to make it 3-0. Gary Mitchell set up Michael Carter for the fourth, and then Carter's cross was deflected into the net by a defender. Pepper cut in from the right to beat the keeper at his near post for the sixth.
The RA will now play Consett, who ran up one of the day's highest scores in the whole of the country, hammering Team Northumbria 11-0, to take their goals tally in the first week of the season to 21.
Steve Johnson scored four to take his personal total to eight in three games, with Mattie Moffat (2), Mark Patterson, Jonjo Dickman, John Clark and Steve Brown getting the others.
Billingham Town easily cruised past Eccleshill by 6-1 at Victoria Park in the FA Cup extra preliminary round.
Anthony Chapman put them in front after just three minutes, and they were 4-0 up at half time with goals by John McKie (2) and Jamie Magowan. Robbie Hutchinson (71) and Steve Huggins (90) added further goals.
The surprise result of the day was Horden's 2-1 home win over Sunderland Nissan.
Horden took the lead when Peter Duggan pounced on a mistake by Nissan keeper Craig Shields and tapped in, but Chris Scott finished off a five man move to score the equaliser before half time. Former Nissan player Roy Allen got the winner ten minutes from the end from a Sean Joseph pass.
West Auckland won their first game of the season, beating Bedlington 2-1. After a goalless first half, Garry Barnes fired West into the lead after 48 minutes, then new signing Scott Nicholson headed the second. Bedlington pulled a late goal back through a header by Lee Hamilton, but then they had striker Alex Benjamin red carded in the dying seconds.
Shildon came back from Lincolnshire with a 2-1 win at Bottesford.
They were much improved following their defeat at Seaham in midweek, and took the lead when Adam Emson scored with a header from a Karl Everitt cross on 21 minutes, and a few minutes later, Danny Moore added the second with another header from a corner. Bottesford pulled one back with five minutes left, but Shildon held on.
Bishop Auckland recovered from their heavy midweek defeat to draw 1-1 at Chester-le-Street and set up a replay on Tuesday night.
Chester took an early lead through a penalty by Andy Cuthbertson after just a few minutes, but Bishops equalised with a fluke goal, when Dane Wilson was tackled just outside the Chester box, and the ball looped over the Chester keeper into the net.
Spennymoor easily beat North Shields 3-0 at the Brewery Field.
Adam Johnston hit the post before he gave Moors the lead on 42 minutes with a header from Craig Bishop's cross. Karl Richards volleyed in Adam Clough's cross on 69 minutes, then Richie Storr quickly headed the third.
Durham City won 5-0 at Second Division Brandon. Teenager Lee Chapman gave Durham the lead just on half-time, then they took a grip in the second half. Keith Graydon scored two - one of them from the halfway line - with sub Tommy English and Stuart Morris scoring the others.
Crook must replay on Tuesday night after drawing 2-2 with Sunderland RCA. The visitors took the lead through Willie Crew, but Crook equalised through Kristian Dinsley. Johnny Butler put the RCA back in front on 70 minutes, but Paul Wilson equalised for Crook with ten minutes left.
Tow Law bounced back with a 3-1 away win at Hebburn. Craig Tate put them in front with a 25 yard free-kick, but Michael Younger equalised for Hebburn from close range. Peter Watling fired into the bottom corner to restore Lawyers' lead, then Tate chipped the keeper for the third.
Billingham Synthonia scored nine minutes into stoppage time to beat Northallerton 2-1 at the PTS Stadium. Neil Campbell set up Colin Iley to give Synners the lead after 80 minutes, but recent signing Paul Hinton equalised for Northallerton with a header. The game was heading for a replay until Shaun Hope scored at the death.
Dunston had a good win at Northern League champions Whitley Bay, Chris Laws scoring the only goal after 12 minutes from the edge of the area.
