EGYPTIAN striker Mido insists Middlesbrough are a similar size club to Tottenham and he holds no grudges for former manager Martin Jol.

The £6m signing was paraded as a Boro player for the first time at lunch-time after signing a four-year contract at the Riverside Stadium.

And Mido goes straight into the squad that will take on Fulham on Saturday, where he is likely to replace Ayegbeni Yakubu in attack.

The 24-year-old's move to Teesside comes after he failed to become a regular at Spurs, where Jol spent £16.1m on Darren Bent in the close-season.

But Mido, despite being frustrated by a lack of opportunities at White Hart Lane, has chosen not to berate his old boss and is trying to focus on improving Boro's fortunes.

"I don't see Middlesbrough as being at a lower level than Tottenham," said Mido. "A always remember when I signed for Tottenham they were mid-table.

"In my first full season we finished fifth, just a point off a Champions League spot. I have joined an ambitious club here who are capable of finishing in the top six."

But, despite reports to the contrary, he inists that there is no anomosity between him and Jol.

"I have never had a problem with Martin Jol," said Mido. "He is a good manager and has done really well in the last couple of years on Spurs.

"I have left because I want to be playing and scoring goals. I wanted to have a big role and I feel I will get that here. That's why I left and joined Middlesbrough."

Mido only hit five goals in 23 matches last season and Middlesbrough have become his ninth club.

After moving to Belgium at 16, he played for Zamalek and Ghent before joining Ajax. After a fall-out with Ronald Koeman, he was loaned to Celta Vigo and Marseille before joining AS Roma.

Now, after his two year stay with Spurs, he is hoping for better fortunes in the English Premier League with Middlesbrough.

The man Mido could replace is Yakubu, after he was left out of the squad to face Fulham.

Manager Gareth Southgate took his squad to London this afternoon and the Nigerian was not on the train, a further indication that he could be about to leave the club.

Everton, Portsmouth, West Ham and Manchester City are all interested in the forward.
