MATTY Robson was happy to be back in the first team frame for Hartlepool United this week, but admits there's no complaints if he misses out tomorrow.

After sitting out the opening game last Saturday, Robson was part of the Pools side which won at Scunthorpe in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night.

It was his first start for the club since an FA Cup tie with Rochdale on November 20.

And, while satisfied with both result and performance, Robson admits the quality within the Pools squad means no-one is guaranteed a spot.

Pools meet Doncaster at Victoria Park tomorrow and Robson admitted: "It was great to get back into the side - it was a bit disappointing not to be in the squad for Luton on Saturday, but the gaffer could only take 18 down.

"I wasn't in it, so all you can do is get on with it. I was pleased to start at Scunthorpe, but it's not about one person.''

After Robbie Elliott and Ritchie Humphreys occupied the left sided positions at Luton, Robson was given his chance at Glanford Park, as his rivals for the spot weren't included in the 16 on duty.

With two experienced players battling with Robson for the position, the 22-year-old admitted: "I was pleased to start at Scunthorpe.

"If I'm in on Saturday or not is a different matter. If not, then I'll just get on with it.

"We've got a lot of competition in the squad - there's three who can play left back and it's the same on the left wing as well.

"We've got (Andy) Monkhouse to come back in soon as well and the competition can only help everyone and help the club.

"Last season was a frustrating one for me because I went a long period without playing, but you cannot get too down about it, you have to get on with it and wish the lads all the best. It's not about one player.

"Everyone wants to be in a winning side, but we all wanted promotion and it was great to see it happen.

"No-one wants to be in because anyone gets hurt of because of someone's misfortune - you wish them all the best.

"I enjoyed a good pre-season, I played a lot and was grateful for the chances, but it was disappointing not to play at Luton. But I came back fit and strong and I want to continue.

"There's a lot of new players in and they are good players, it can only help the club.''
