Durham Women 1 Everton 6
DURHAM WOMEN’S FA Cup run came to an end at the quarter-final stage as they crashed to a 6-1 defeat to WSL 1 side Everton.
Courtney Sweetman-Kirk scored four goals for the Toffees, with Olivia Chance and Danielle Turner also netting at New Feren’s Park.
Sarah Robson scored a consolation goal for Durham, who were competing in the last eight of the Women’s FA Cup for the first time in their history.
The Wildcats started brightly with Zoe Ness forcing Kirstie Levell to tip the ball over the crossbar, but Everton opened the scoring as Sweetman-Kirk claimed her first goal of the game after Helen Alderson had parried Chance’s shot.
Beth Hepple fired over as Durham attempted to rally, only for Everton to double their advantage as Turner teed up Chance to slot home from inside the area.
Hepple struck the post with a free-kick on the stroke of half-time, but Everton moved three goals clear as Sweetman-Kirk headed home at the start of the second half.
Turner fired past Alderson extend the visitors’ lead further, and Sweetman-Kirk made it five moments later as she rounded the Durham goalkeeper to slot home.
The Wildcats finally got themselves onto the scoresheet as Robson converted the rebound after Nicki Gears’ header had struck the post, but while Emily Roberts rattled the crossbar as Durham continued to press in the closing stages, Sweetman-Kirk had the final say as she claimed her fourth goal of the game in stoppage time.
