TREVOR CARSON, the Hartlepool United goalkeeper, has been called into the Northern Ireland squad for next weekend’s international.
Carson was part of Michael O’Neill’s training squad before the European Championships, but missed the cut and was in France to watch his nation as a fan.
But now he’s been given an opportunity after replacing Roy Carroll and being named in the squad for the World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic in Prague on Sunday, September 4.
As a result, he will miss two Pools games – the Checkatrade Trophy trip to Notts County next Wednesday, and the League Two game at Stevenage on Saturday, September 3.
In his absence Adam Bartlett will deputise for Pools, who have not had a player appear at full international level since Ambrose Fogarty won one cap for the Republic of Ireland against Spain in 1964.
