Durham’s storming start to the WSL season puts them firmly in the promotion picture as they begin a run of three successive matches at New Ferens Park.
And defender Ellie Christon hopes home advantage can swing the matches in their favour as they look to capture the imagination of the city.
“We want to put those home performances in for the crowd, make them cheer us on because we can get a really good atmosphere going,” she said.
“If we can increase attendances as we go along then that’s a huge bonus, we’re always trying to build that up and they can be that extra player for us at times.
“It’s the first of three home games; we know it’s going to be a tough game.
“Yeovil have been doing really well recently, so they’re going to come at us.
“We need to counteract that, work hard to stop them, but we’ve been working well together recently.
“If we want to achieve promotion then these are three games that we need to be targeting.
“It’s not just about the points, it’s about showing other people what we’re capable of and that we haven’t reached that peak.”
The Lady Glovers top the WSL 2 table, two points clear of Everton and three in front of Durham – though both teams chasing them have a game in hand.
Yeovil striker Sarah Wiltshire said: “Durham have shown that a lot this season, so it’s nowhere near going to be a straightforward game.
“It looks as though Durham have improved a lot since last season. It will certainly be a tough game, but we’ve got a good group of players who have all been working hard.”
