DURHAM WOMEN 2 LONDON BEES 0
GOALS from Beth Hepple and Jordan Atkinson saw Durham maintain their 100 per cent start to the FA Women’s Super League 2 season with a 2-0 home win over London Bees.
Atkinson’s first-half strike gave the hosts the advantage before Hepple – a constant threat throughout – picked up on a poor kick from Sophie Harris in the Bees goal to lash home from 30 yards.
On a chilly afternoon in the North-East, the match was dominated by Durham, who hit the post in the opening minute through Nicki Gears.
The striker was regularly getting in behind the Bees’ backline and in the 33rd minute, she forced Harris into a fine low save after Chloe Macek burst down the left and crossed.
But the home side wouldn’t be denied in the 36th minute as Gears, instrumental once more, played Atkinson through on the right. She was able to drive the ball across Harris and into the far corner.
The Bees attempted to rouse a comeback in the second half, but were condemned to defeat in the 72nd minute courtesy of Hepple’s ferocious strike.
That second goal ended the game as a contest as Durham made it two league wins from two this season.
