CARLISLE United hope to tie up a permanent deal for former Middlesbrough striker Danny Graham this week.
Cumbrians boss Neil McDonald insists he is close to persuading Gateshead-born Graham his future lies at Brunton Parkdespite interest from several other clubs including Hartlepool.
Graham, 21, scored seven goals in 11 appearances while on loan at Carlisle this season and he has now been released by Boro.
McDonald said: "We are still in good dialogue with his representatives and we are getting closer every time we speak."
Sunderland, meanwhile, are keen to bring full-back Stuart Parnaby to the Stadium of Light.
Parnaby is out-of-contract and will leave Boro after turning down a new deal on Teesside.
The 24-year-old full-back is available on a free transfer and Roy Keane needs to strengthen his squad with right-back a particular area of concern.
Everton, Ipswich and Celtic are also interested.
* Birmingham City co-owner David Sullivan has admitted Blues are chasing Middlesbrough's out of contract striker Mark Viduka.
Sullivan revealed they are among several clubs after the Aussie, he said: "Viduka's 31 and goes missing in some games but he scores goals. However, eight clubs are chasing him.
"Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is a possibility. We need a striker who will score in the Premiership."
* Darlington are hoping to complete the signing of former Hartlepool United defender John Brackstone. He would provide cover for first-choice left-back Tim Ryan.
Also interesting Quakers is 22-year-old Barnsley midfielder Dale Tonge.
