WIGAN ATHLETIC will announce at 3pm today that manager Paul Jewell has resigned - just 24 hours after keeping the Latics in the Premiership.
Jewell, a name previously mentioned in connection with the Newcastle job, managed to steer Wigan out of the relegation zone on the final day of the campaign yesterday with a 2-1 win over Sheffield United.
Jewell could not hide his delight at the final whistle as he celebrated with his players at Bramall Lane but he is now on the verge of turning his back on the JJB Stadium.
The former Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford City boss is desperate for a new challenge and is being linked with summer switch to Manchester City, where current manager Stuart Pearce is under increasing pressure.
