WOLVES are hoping to sign Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Reach on loan after making a formal inquiry to senior officials at the Riverside.
Having watched his side crash out of the Capital One Cup at the hands of Boro on Tuesday night, Wolves boss Kenny Jackett is hoping to strengthen his resources by recruiting Reach on a temporary basis.
Boro head coach Aitor Karanka is expected to make a decision on the 22-year-old’s position within the next couple of days, and it looks increasingly likely that the Spaniard will allow Reach to move to Molineux in order to give him a chance of playing more regular football.
Reach has made three Championship starts this season, but was not involved in either of Boro’s last two league games against Brentford and Nottingham Forest.
He was a 79th-minute substitute as Boro reached the League Cup fourth round on Tuesday night, but the deadline-day arrival of Carlos de Pena from Nacional has seen him fall down the first-team pecking order.
As well as de Pena, Stewart Downing, Cristhian Stuani and Yanic Wildschut are also capable of playing on the left-hand side, and it is hard to see how Reach would benefit from a lengthy spell in Boro’s development squad.
The Chester-le-Street-born midfielder has previously played on loan at Darlington, Shrewsbury Town and Bradford City, and Boro could opt to include a recall clause in any agreement with Wolves in order to protect themselves in case they suffer from a sudden glut of midfield injuries.
