Durham defender Lauren Jordinson has described their match with London Bees as a must-win game as both teams look to move away from the foot of FA WSL2. The Wildcats’ 3-1 victory at bottom-of-the-table Watford in their last league outing was their first win in seven matches and moved them two points above London Bees and six ahead of the Hornets.
Durham thumped tomorrow’s opponents 4-0 in April but the Bees have had a mini revival with two victories in their last three WSL2 fixtures.
But that does not concern Jordinson, who is confident her side will triumph if they play to their potential.
Jordinson said: “This is a must-win game. We’ve already played London Bees and beat them well, so we know their style of play.
“It’s really important to get points when we are playing the sides around us in the table.
“I don’t think we’ve performed at our highest level in the last few games and had some poor defeats, so we are looking to rectify that and pick up more points in the second half of the season.
“London Bees have looked a little stronger in recent weeks, but we’ll just be focused on our own performance and make sure we turn up and play our best. If that happens I don’t think we will have anything to worry about.”
It is a busy time for the FA Women’s Super League with BT Sport, with both Durham and the Bees halfway through four games in ten days. Durham suffered an agonising injury time defeat to Sunderland in midweek.
Aoife Hurley believes the London side are much stronger than they were earlier in the season following the arrival of three signings: Emma Whitter, Kate Bowers and Kara-May Howes.
Hurley said: “We’re excited about the Durham game. We suffered a tough loss to them at the beginning of the season but I think we’ve come on leaps and bounds since then.
“So we are a lot stronger and I definitely think we can get a better result this time. Hopefully we will know what Durham are about having played them before, and with the new girls in our side too there is no reason we can’t get a win.”
