BLYTH SPARTANS will play Chelsea in the third round of the FA Cup.

The televised draw will be made this evening, but boss Tom Wade already has had his route to Stamford Bridge long mapped out.

At the end of September, Wade was told his side’s destiny by a Spartans fan – and so far she’s got every predicted result right !

“An old woman come to me in the car park and she told me the results – 2-1, 4-3, 4-1, 2-1 and then Chelsea! The results were right and I’ve told them that before this game,’’ he laughed.

“It was the game after Mickelover, she gave us the results. Chelsea it is then.’’

Spartans second round win at Hartlepool United on Friday night was as moving as they come for Wade.

“We carried the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation name on our shirts in the warm-up and it’s been a very emotional game coming here,’’ he reflected. “There was some tears from the lads in the dressing room afterwards, it’s been a fantastic week.

“We thought this was our last chance. The club was in the doldrums three years ago, going in the wrong direction and we have moved on.

“My wife and daughter were in the crowd, it was emotional for us all. There was a few tears.’’

Spartans trailed to a Jon Franks goal, before a spectacular Stephen Turnbull free-kick levelled things.

The midfielder spent five years at Pools between 2003 and 2008 and gave goalkeeper Scott Flinders no chance to save his set-piece.

He said: ‘I’d been practising them all week in training and couldn’t hit a barn door. I said to Robbie Dale, “I’m going to hit this”. Never in my dreams did I think I’d catch it like I did. It didn’t just go in the top corner, it curled into the side-netting.

‘Afterwards, our manager, Tom Wade, said that Alan Shearer said it was the best free-kick he’d ever seen. Wow. That’s good enough for me.’

Turnbull said: “I said to the lads if we can stay in this game, these lads are getting beaten week-in and week-out, and we have a chance. We hung in there, sneaked a goal and got the other.

“We have an honest bunch of lads, everyone grafts. We are just buzzing.’’

Following Turnbull’s leveller, Spartans won it in the 90th minute through winger Jarrett Rivers. And, while the club’s soothsayer says Chelsea, he wants another Premier League giant.

“Personally I want Man United in the next round, Old Trafford or Croft Park – anywhere will suit us.

“Newcastle ? I prefer one of the big boys of the Premier League!

“As soon as I got the ball I knew what I wanted to do. I like running at people, when it went in I can’t descrive the feeling – it was unbelieveable. I couldn’t breathe in the pile I was on.’’
