Spennymoor will be without influential midfielder Shane Henry for their away game at Mossley on Saturday.
Henry, signed from Whitby during the summer, has produced several top class performances this season, but picked up his fifth booking of the season a fortnight ago against Droylsden, and will serve a one game ban today. Top scorer Liam Henderson is also missing because of injury.
But Moors are heartened by the display of their second string, who kept their nerve to beat Brighouse in the Doodson Cup on Tuesday night.
“One of the purposes of the game was to give several players some game time. People like Kieran Green, Ian Ward, John McReady and Chris Lynch were all heavily involved, and now they’ve forced their way into the reckoning for today’s game,” said assistant manager Gavin Fell.
“But the youngsters we drafted in also did well. They dug in well, and kept their nerve with the penalties.”
Moors are tenth in the table with games in hand on all the clubs above them, while Mossley are two places and two points ahead of them.
“We’ve had them watched, and they’re similar to the majority of teams in this league in that they are direct and work hard, so it will be up to us to break them down. Some of our regulars were rested in midweek, and hopefully the rest will do them good.”
Meanwhile, Moors have been drawn away to Harrogate RA in the last16 of the Doodson Sports Cup. The game is scheduled for Monday January 12th.
