NEWCASTLE United manager Alan Pardew has revealed Moussa Sissoko will donate to charity following his needless red card against West Ham on Saturday.
Sissoko was dismissed after collecting two bookings in quick succession with 14 minutes left at the Boleyn Ground and will miss tonight’s trip to Burnley.
The French midfielder’s suspension comes at the worst time for Pardew, who will be without a large chunk of his first-team for the game at Turf Moor.
Jack Colback is also suspended after racking up five bookings, while Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson and Massadio Haidara are all struggling with knocks.
Sissoko has been a revelation for the Magpies during their six-game winning streak, but Pardew revealed the midfielder will be fined for his actions at the weekend.
“He should not have kicked the ball away, it was a stupid booking and the second one was pure frustration,” said Pardew, who also dismissed reports linking Sissoko with a January move to Arsenal. “It probably came from him feeling stupid about kicking the ball away so that was almost a self-inflicted second booking.
“I'm disappointed with him, and I have talked to him this morning about what contribution he'll be making towards charity. We've not discussed a figure yet. He's apologised to the squad because he knows he was in the wrong.
"I don't know (which charity) yet, Moussa can decide.
“I've been sitting here and praising him because he's been the best player in the North-East if I'm honest in the last year, but that's another story!”
Pardew confirmed only 19 senior players will travel to Lancashire, three of whom are nursing knocks.
Fabricio Coloccini, Mehdi Abeid, Ryan Taylor and Rolando Aarons are all out and after describing his injury problems as “critical”, Pardew has drafted youngsters Freddie Woodman, Remie Streete and Lubomir Satka into his squad.
Rob Elliot, despite the fact his wife is expecting their first child, will continue in goal in place of Tim Krul, who has been ruled out until mid-January.
Pardew said: “We haven't come out of the weekend very well. We're carrying a lot of injuries and we're taking our injuries to Burnley.
“It'll be a deep squad, 22 will be travelling including Freddie Woodman, Lubomir Satka and Remie Streete.
“We're a bit thin on the ground and we've lost the core of the team, it's not ideal going to Burnley in that situation. We've had to chop and change the team many times this last month and I've been very pleased with the performances I've had with the squad so we'll still go there with good heart and good faith for getting a result.”
Should Williamson, Haidara and Janmaat miss out, Streete and Satka could make their Premier League bows at Turf Moor.
Streete impressed in a short loan spell at Port Vale last month and Pardew insists he has no qualms over throwing the youngsters in should he need to.
He said: “It's not ideal but we've still got good young players, Remie Streete has done really well on loan, Lubo has done well, Vernon (Anita) hasn't played for a while, and all of these players might feature.
“Mehdi Abeid, Rolando and Sammy, who I thought was terrific again on Saturday, and Paul Dummett in particular. We've had those players do great for us. It's one of those seasons where we're going through transition in terms of the squad.”
The Newcastle boss is confident a number of his absent players will return against Chelsea on Saturday with a host of crucial fixtures to follow this month.
The Capital One Cup quarter-final tie with Tottenham follows a trip to Arsenal before Newcastle host Sunderland and then travel to Manchester United on Boxing Day.
Having seen his team beat Liverpool, Manchester City and Spurs during their winning run, Pardew says there is no added pressure to get a result at Turf Moor despite the run of fixtures to come.
“I look back and we got three wins from Man City, Liverpool and Spurs, so we're one of those teams,” the Magpies boss said.
“You've only got to look at the table and you see the competition - and Sunderland against Chelsea at the weekend was a good example of that - the gap between teams isn't big.
“The disappointing thing on Saturday was the last third where we didn't really do as well as we have done.”
Newcastle: Elliot; Anita, Streete, S Taylor, Dummett; Tiote; Ameobi, Cabella, Gouffran; Riviere, Perez.
