Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley wants his players to be consistent for a full 90 minutes in today’s third qualifying round tie with Chasetown.
Ainsley is concerned that his players haven’t fired on all cylinders in their last two matches, and said; “I think we’ve been sluggish in parts of our last two matches, in the second half against Droylsden last Saturday and the first half against Farsley in midweek. On Tuesday night, every single one of the opposition players were better than ours in the first half, and I had to give the lads a rollicking at half time – I don’t usually do that. We were much better in the second half, and Gavin Cogdon changed the game.
“I want to see a ninety minutes made up of the good things in our last two games, not the bad ones.
“Having said that, the lads have played a lot of football recently. Every game is like a must-win game, and we’ve travelled a lot. I might just freshen things up today.”
Ainsley has signed former Darlington striker Ian Ward from West Auckland, and he is sure to figure at some stage as Ward isn’t Trophy tied. Striker Liam Henderson is out of the reckoning because of injury, while another striker, Chris Lynch, will more likely figure in the Doodson Sports cup tie at Brighouse in midweek.
Opponents Chasetown are currently 15th in the EvoStik First Division South, so on paper Moors have a good chance of reaching the competition proper and a possible tie with one of the Conference Premier.
Meanwhile, midfielder Ben Sayer has been released, and has joined Northern League club Morpeth Town.
