Spennymoor could be without their top scorer Liam Henderson for six weeks starting with tonight’s away game at Farsley.
Henderson injured his ankle in the first half of last week’s Trophy win at Leek Town, and Moors’ worst fears were realised once the initial swelling went down.
“Losing Liam is a blow, but we have players in the squad who can replace him,” said manager Jason Ainsley. “I thought Nathan Fisher did well on Saturday when he started the Droylsden game instead of him.”
Defender Paul Johnson is also carrying a knock and could miss tonight’s game, which means that Ainsley’s squad is being stretched to the limit, and one or two of the club’s youngsters might travel to West Yorkshire as cover.
This is a hectic period for Moors, as they are at home to Chasetown in the third qualifying round of the Trophy on Saturday, and then away to Brighouse in the league cup next Tuesday.
They are currently eighth in the table, and could go three points behind tonight’s fifth placed opponents if they win their sixth away game of the season.
