Spennymoor moved into the top eight of the EvoStik First Division with a thrilling 3-2 win over Droylsden at the Brewery Field.
Moors boss Jason Ainsley was delighted with the display, just three days after their long trip to Leek Town in the Trophy in midweek.
“I was delighted with the players, especially when you consider that after our last long distance midweek away trip to Telford, we lost badly by 6-1 the following Saturday.
“This time, the players did very well after playing at Leek and not getting back until 2 in the morning. Especially in the first half, when we could have been four or five up, and late in the game when we were defending doggedly.”
Moors took the lead after 20 minutes when Steve Capper took a free kick from the right for Nathan Fisher to squeeze in at the near post.
Moors continued to play some good football, and they nearly made it 2-0 when Michal Roberts got through, but Droylsden keeper Russ Saunders did well to block.
It looked good for Moors when they went 2-0 up on 33 minutes when Fisher played a one-two with Anthony Peacock and had a shot saved, and Andrew Stephenson was on hand to score from the loose ball.
Droylsden got back into the game just after half time, when Kallum Griffiths fouled Ben Duggan, and Ciaran Kilheeney scored from the spot.
But Moors rolled up their sleeves, and went 3-1 up when Peacock set up Griffiths to score with a shot into the bottom corner.
However, Droylsden bounced back and pulled a goal back after 75 minutes Deegan turned and beat McHugh with a deflected shot.
Moors are at Farsley on Tuesday, and then face Chasetown in the Trophy on Saturday.
