Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley says that he is looking for a “big improvement” in his team when they take on Leek Town in the second qualifying round of the FA trophy at the Brewery Field on Saturday.
Ainsley was furious after last Saturday’s embarrassing 6-1 home defeat by Bamber Bridge, and questioned himself and the players afterwards.
“The goals we conceded were embarrassing. I looked for characters on the field, and they weren’t there.
“Usually, I don’t mind getting beat, but it was the manner of the defeat that upset me, and we folded like a pack of cards. The goals were schoolboy errors. Hopefully, all the players came away feeling as embarrassed as I did, and want to put things right today against Leek.
“In the players’ defence, they’ve played a lot of games, and there have been a couple of results that were hard to take, like the games against Darlington and Telford, but they must be much, much better today.”
Striker Liam Henderson returns after suspension, but defender Kallum Griffiths and striker Gavin Cogdon are both struggling with injuries.
Also in the Trophy, Blyth are at home to Halesowen In the EvoStik League premier division, Whitby are at home to Ilkeston.
