Final score: Spennymoor Town 5 Ossett Albion 0.
Spennymoor ended their home goal drought in style with a comfortable 5-0 home win over Ossett Albion at the Brewery Field tonight.
Moors showed plenty of pace and movement early in the game, and they took the lead after 12 minutes when Ossett keeper Neil Bennett could do nothing more than push a powerful shot up in the air from Andrew Stephenson for Liam Henderson to head home Moors’ first goal at home this season.
It was 2-0 a few minutes later, when Gavin Cogdon made a good run down the right, and pulled the ball back for the supporting Shane Henry, making his full debut, to sidefoot into the net.
Moors scored a delightful third on 26 minutes, when Cogdon played a reverse pass for supporting left back Steve Capper to curl beyond the reach of Bennett.
Cogdon went close twice more before the break as Moors threatened to run rampant, but at the start of the second half Moors’ keeper Adam McHugh had to go full length to his left to push away a shot by Nick Matthews.
But Moors were soon back up at the other end. Anthony Peacock curled a good shot towards goal that Bennett could only parry, and Andrew Stephenson tapped in.
Sub Andrew Johnson scored the fifth on 73 minutes, when he turned on the edge of the area, and beat Bennett with a low shot.
Moors could have had more after that, with Bennett pulling off a couple of good saves.
Manager Jason Ainsley said; “Once we got the first goal, I didn’t think there was any doubt about the result. I thought we played some very good football, and Shane Henry had an outstanding game.”
