LIKE A Diamond really seems to have found his stride this winter and he can make it a course and distance double in the Coral Mobile ‘‘Just Three Clicks To Bet’’ Handicap at Wolverhampton Formerly trained by Sharon Dunphy in Ireland, Like A Diamond transferred to the care of Evan Williams towards the end of last year and was soon tried in hurdles company.
While he did not really excel over obstacles, the four-yearold has shown much more ability switched to the all weather, winning a maiden event over nine furlongs at this track last month.
He then narrowly failed to follow up on his handicap bow over the same course and distance but righted the record with a narrow victory over Sagesse at the start of this month stepped up in trip.
Like A Diamond has just three-quarters of a length to spare that day but the margin of victory has seen the handicapper raise him by just 1lb when the suspicion is that he may be a little better than that.
He clearly sees out 12 furlongs well and despite moving a couple of rungs up the ladder, Like A Diamond still rates as a live contender, even with a penalty.
Alumina has been plying her trade to good effect of late and is on quite a roll coming into the 32Red Free £10 Bonus Handicap.
She failed to hit the mark on her first four outings but has scored over six furlongs at both Kempton and Southwell so far this year.
Alumina turns out again quickly after notching that last win just five days ago and she will have to shoulder a 6lb penalty for that success.
However, given the winning margin was six lengths and she still appeared to be comfortable, Alumina could well receive a ratings rise in excess of the penalty when reassessed.
She has always looked as though a step up to seven furlongs could suit and the fact Andrew Balding is keen to strike again so soon should be noted.
Glace is the choice in the 32Red Secret Admirer Slot Handicap at Lingfield.
Well beaten on her only start for Eddie Lynam, Glace subsequently moved to Mark Johnston’s Middleham yard and she made an ideal start for the team when winning a Lingfield maiden earlier this month.
She got a nice lead from a loose horse that day and while she only won by a neck, she did not appear to be all out in the finish and should improve for the experience.
Touzr cost 300,000 guineas at the breeze-up sales last spring and his lowly fifth place in a Sandown maiden last September was hardly a dream beginning.
However, this Invincible Spirit colt was incredibly green in the early stages and showed his inexperience as he was totally outpaced when the field kicked for home.
To further add to his woes, Touzr then jumped a path and it is probably best to just strike that run from the record.
He will doubtless be a bit more mature now and is one to watch in the Compare Bookmakers At bookmakers.co.uk Maiden Stakes.
Spirit Oscar is a thoroughly interesting contender as she makes her fencing bow in the Andy Don Memorial Beginners’ Chase at Fakenham.
A point-to-point winner back in 2012, she has shone over hurdles in winning two of her three starts.
Her initial victory at Lingfield was notched in fine style while she again showed plenty of dash when following up at Fontwell on Boxing Day.
However, Spirit Oscar met with defeat on her most recent outing, havingtobecontentwith third under a double penalty.
Trainer Oliver Sherwood clearly thinks it is the right time to switch disciplines now, and given that she is a point winner, there should be few worries on the jumping front.
Spirit Oscar gets a handy mares’ allowance in this event and she can put it to good use.
Bobble Boru appears to be on a steep upward curve at present and can make it three wins in as many starts this term in the EBF Stallions ‘‘National Hunt’’ Novices’ Hurdle.
Winner of a Ludlow bumper back in November, Bobble Boru made a successful start over obstacles when winning at Wincanton back in December.
She ran a bit free early on that day and had to survive a blunder, but nevertheless improved as the race went on and eventually won in fairly decent style by a length and three-quarters.
Bobble Boru still looked a bit green that day so taking that into account, she could well have plenty left to give.
