Giuseppe Rossi returns to Manchester United next week with mixed feelings about his five-month loan spell at Newcastle United.

Rossi will be in manager Glenn Roeder's 16-man squad for the last time when Newcastle travel to Everton this weekend. He will then fly the Magpies' nest and report to Sir Alex Ferguson's Premiership leaders the morning after both clubs have clashed on New Year's Day at St James' Park.

The 19-year-old striker has appeared 13 times for United during his short stay on Tyneside, making five starts and netting one goal.

Although Rossi is disappointed he did not have more outings in a black and white jersey, the American-born Italian believes his time at the club was beneficial to his development as a player.

"It has helped me coming to Newcastle," said Rossi, who picked up his first top-flight caution when coming on as a 65th-minute substitute at Bolton on Boxing Day.

"I'd have liked to have played more games, which has been a little frustrating.

"But in life I believe that you take something from every experience, whether it is good or bad.

"I've enjoyed myself, I've had a few games under my belt, but it was only ever about coming here and taking that experience back with me to Manchester United. That was the purpose of the move."

While Rossi has enjoyed his time on Tyneside he is relishing a return to Old Trafford.

"I'm really excited about going back," said Rossi, who ruled out a return to Newcastle in the immediate future.

"It's a great time to be going back to Manchester United because we're challenging for the title and in the latter stages of the Champions League. Obviously I'd like to be involved in that.

"I've spoken to Sir Alex Ferguson and I hope there will be opportunities for me to play when I go back.

"That's my main priority now, that's all I'm thinking about. He has said he wants to have a big squad of players in the second half of the season and there might be an opportunity for me to show what I can do.

"I'll always have fond memories of the Newcastle fans. They are so passionate and whenever we have gone away they have followed us in their thousands."

Meanwhile, Peter Ramage refused to make any excuses for his part in the own goal he netted at Bolton Wanderers on Boxing Day.

Television replays revealed Trotters' midfielder Kevin Nolan had shoved him in the back prior to the defender nodding the ball past goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek.

But the magnanimous 23-year-old centre-half confessed it was he who was to blame and not Nolan, or Srnicek.

He said: "Football is all about learning and I am still a young man learning my trade. Not only will I learn from this but this will make me stronger.

"It's all very disappointing. We were leading and we were looking very comfortable.

"The ball came over and I turned to head it back to Pavel Srnicek not realising that he had already come out.

"People are now telling me that the TV replays are showing that I was pushed in the back by Kevin Nolan, but I have to be honest and say I wasn't really aware of this.

"While hindsight is a wonderful thing, I know I should have dealt with the situation a lot better.

"We were beaten by two scruffy goals and we are disappointed to lose to two goals like that.

"However that's Bolton's style of play and we have no qualms about it."
