ROY Keane felt yesterday's win over Leeds United was the perfect response from his players after Friday night's defeat at Crystal Palace.

The Blacks Cats boss praised the manner in which his side returned to winning ways after their seven-match unbeaten run was brought to an end at Selhurst Park on Friday.

His only criticism was that they did not score more than the two goals David Connolly and Grant Leadbitter claimed to ensure Sunderland put the disappointment of defeat at Palace behind them.

The win moves the Wearsiders up to 11th in the Championship and Keane said: "It was a good performance and a good reaction from the players from the result a couple of days ago.

"It would have been nice if we could have scored a few more goals, but I thought we deserved the victory.

"I thought it was a good performance, especially in the second half. We had to be patient, but we kept on passing and moving it and we knew that we would eventually tire Leeds out.

"We had to go for the game and I don't think a draw would have been any good to us."

Connolly's 65th minute strike set Sunderland on the way to their seventh home win of the season and, but for some crucial blocks from Leeds substitute Matthew Kilgallon, the striker could have added more to his tally.

"David is actually disappointed because he thinks he should have had two or three, but I would rather give credit to the lad Kilgallon for that," said Keane.

"It would have been nice if we could have finished off a few more moves and got our rewards, especially in the last 20-25 minutes.

"Leeds were throwing bodies forward towards the end and we caught them on the break."

Leadbitter's fourth goal of the season put the game beyond Leeds and Keane believes the young midfielder has the capabilities to add more to his tally this season.

"Grant's got it in his locker to score a few more goals and I do believe if you want to be a top midfielder then you've got to be able to put the ball in the back of the net," said Keane. "He had a little bit more responsibility because Liam (Miller) likes to get forward."

With the transfer window due to re-open next week, Keane has revealed he has "two or three players" in mind.

One of the players heading to Wearside could be Luton Town winger Carlos Edwards, an international team-mate of Dwight Yorke.

Sunderland are believed to have lodged a £1m bid for the Trinidadian World Cup winger, which has been accepted by the Hatters.

"Nothing can happen until after January 1 because you're not supposed to be speaking to players," said Keane. "Things will work out for themselves and all we can do is put an offer in for a player and see what happens.''
