David Byas is about to tell Yorkshire that he has rejected the club's offer of a new role as director of cricket development, writes David Warner.
Yorkshire announced when Chris Adams was signed as captain and director of professional cricket on November 1 that Byas would no longer be director of cricket and that his new job would not include any responsibilities for the playing staff.
When Adams then reneged on his appointment, Yorkshire declined to re-instate Byas, but hoped he would take up his new role.
Byas has spent several weeks considering his future, but he is not at his desk at Headingley and there is little indication he is happy with the situation.
Yorkshire, who have still to appoint a captain, will advertise for a director of cricket development early in 2007 and they will also be looking for someone to replace Byas.
The longer Yorkshire go without naming a captain the more likely it is they will have to look abroad for a leader because many of the most suitable home-grown candidates are already signed up for next season.
Chief executive, Stewart Regan, has said newly-signed Pakistan batting star Younis Khan will not be captain.
