BRIAN HONOUR spent many a year entertaining the Hartlepool public - and now the former Victoria Park favourite is to pass on his expertise in the town.
Starting on Friday evening, the Brian Honour Soccer School will be running coaching sessions at the new Sports Domes, based in Seaton Carew.
Already well established in Peterlee and East Durham, Honour is looking forward to getting started in the town where he made his name - with the aim of boosting the clubs youth set-up in the process.
Honour already coaches around 300 youngsters a week in East Durham and, since he linked up with Pools last September, ten prospects have been signed up for the clubs academy.
"This is the natural progression for the school, said Honour, with 384 appearances in nine years at Pools to his name.
"Weve had a lot of parents asking why, when they bring their kids to East Durham from Hartlepool for coaching, we cant be in town.
"Weve now, with the Sports Domes up and running, a modern, perfect venue for it.
"As a player for Pools, we never had anything like this place to train. We were on Grayfields, the beach, the Power Station and anywhere we could find.
"But instead, the pitches here are true - its playing on the best indoor surface you will find anywhere and everyone will improve their game. It really is a special venue.
Honour, who coached Sunderland and England winger Adam Johnson from the age of five, added: "A lot of youngsters play football from the age of five or six, then they may have a break a few years later and start playing again aged 12. Most of the best players have been snapped up by clubs at that age, but we feel theres a gap out there where they can be found and spotted once they start playing again.
"But we just want to make them all better footballers and better people.
"Its not just about those who have a chance of making it and progressing into Pools academy - theres a lot of kids out there who dont get enough exercise, some parents at our schools say that its the only exercise they get each week.
"Id love more kids to get off the sofa and the PlayStation and come down and enjoy the sessions and play football and enjoy themselves.
Sports Domes owner, Brian Morton, said: "I'm absolutely delighted to welcome Brian Honour and his soccer school to the Sports Domes.
"Brian is a true Hartlepool United legend and it is fantastic to have him on board.  We have top class facilities here and I'm looking forward to seeing Brian Honour's soccer school develop and grow at the Dome."
The classes are open to boys and girls and will be on every Friday. From 5.30-6.30 its for five to eight year olds, with nine to 13s from 6.30-7.30, costing 12 per month.
