North Yorkshire diver Jack Laugher claimed his first senior international medal yesterday when he finished third in the Russia Spring Swallows Grand Prix in Kazan.
Laugher, who hails from Boroughbridge, produced a new personal best of 484.20 in the 3m springboard final to edge out China’s Xie Siyi in the battle for bronze.
Russia’s Ilia Zakharov claimed the gold medal with 536.75 points, with China’s Zhou Xin winning silver.
Laugher, who won a gold medal at last year’s Junior World Championships, had previously eased through the semi-finals in second position.
He tweeted: “First ever international senior medal!
Bronze! A couple of points off 2nd and 0.1 in front of 4th! Couldn’t be happier.
And a new personal best and international personal best too!”
