THE British Horseracing Authority is poised to issue Frankie Dettori’s riding licence once the rider has been given clearance to return to the saddle by France Galop.
The French authority banned the Italian for six months after he tested positive for cocaine at Longchamp last September, but the rider had been due to return to action last week after serving that suspension.
However, a ‘‘private matter’’ between Dettori and the medical committee of France Galop has so far prevented the French regulator from clearing the jockey to return, with the BHA reciprocating that stance.
Dettori and his team met with France Galop yesterday afternoon and they expect the results of a final batch of tests to be confirmed tomorrow, with the rider still hoping to be in action at this weekend’s Investec Derby meeting at Epsom.
The BHA is anticipating a decision by France Galop before the weekend and have reiterated their intention to act swiftly once the situatiogn is resolved.
