THE lunchtime rain cleared in time for play to resume on time, but returned twice in the afternoon and Durham had reached 180 for four when an early tea was taken.
Dale Benkenstein and Ben Stokes countered the spin effectively and picked up runs whenever possible in a stand of 39. But for the second time a young Durham player was guilty of dropping his guard when Zander de Bruyn came on.
Just like Scott Borthwick in the morning, Stokes fell for 20 when driving, getting a big inside edge into his stumps.
Benkenstein was on 26 at the break with Paul Collingwood on two.
