Walters, 9

O'Shea, 63

TEN man Sunderland grabbed a precious point against Stoke City at the Stadium of Light.

John O'Shea scored what could be the most important goal of the Black Cats' season to even up the score despite Stoke having the greater possession.

Larsson whipped a corner in which fell to O'Shea at the far post who turned the ball in at close range.

After the equaliser Sunderland had the better of the play. Danny Rose hit the post and McClean had a good chance.

The Black Cats' top scorer Craig Gardener was shown the red car after a reckless tackle on 34 minutes.

Stoke took the lead early in the first half. Jonathan Walters lashed in a rebound after a corner sent in from Charlie Adam.

The stakes could not be higher. If Wigan beat Swansea tomorrow night Newcastle United will find themselves in the bottom three.

Sunderland have 38 points and a superior goal difference to Newcastle.
