SUNDERLAND defender John Egan has signed a one-year contract extension with the club.

The Republic of Ireland under-21 international joined the club in 2009 and made his first-team debut last summer in South Korea as part of pre-season.

The 20-year old centre-half has also played first-team football during loan spells at Championship side Crystal Palace as well as Sheffield United and recently Bradford City, where his stay was cut short due to injury.

Meanwhile, Adam Reed has joined League Two strugglers York City on loan until the end of the season.

Hartlepool-born Reed recently made ten appearances while on loan at League One side Portsmouth.
