KNOCKING on doors in Durham City for a local survey, I was surprised to find how many students live in Gilesgate.
Houses that used to have tidy gardens and windows are now looking run down and uncared for.
Many of the other residents were surprisingly happy with their student neighbours.
As one lady said: “They are the lawyers and teachers of tomorrow – just not the gardeners of today.”
I blame absent landlords who, having found a great way to make money in Durham, have no intention of maintaining the upkeep of our beautiful city – shame on you. Landlords, please wise up and tidy up.
Bill Moir, Darlington.
