REGARDING The Northern Echo article about the row over Redcar and Cleveland council’s provision of telecare services for elderly residents (Oct 9).

One can almost sense the desperation of the Liberal Democrats pumping out misleading press releases accusing the Labour-led authority of “botching” the contract.

The contract has been signed with the Cleveland Fire Brigade and provides a 15 per cent saving on the previous deal, plus the added value of a free fire home safety check.

The Lib Dems are propping up a Conservative Government which is imposing devastating cuts on North-East councils that have resulted in thousands of public service job losses and another raft of £34m in cuts on top of the £15.1m already imposed.

Councillor George Dunning, Redcar and Cleveland council.
