FURTHER to your article regarding the additional finances required for the refurbishment of Darlington Civic Theatre (Echo, Oct 3).
Surely, the people of Darlington have a duty to keep visiting the theatre in order to help it survive?
I believe strongly that a huge percentage of the population of the town has never stepped through the doors of the Civic.
That may be for several reasons – financial constraints or availability of time – but I also think there is a huge misconception that theatre is somehow seen as elitist.
That could not be further from the truth and it is a perception which has to be changed.
It would be a crying shame for the town to lose such a valuable, beautiful venue which should be a great cultural hub of the town.
Let’s support our local theatre – or risk losing it.
