AS a Hurworth resident, I am not in favour of wheelie bins but accept that they are inevitable.
Recently, I looked on the Darlington Borough Council website and, as residents of flats were to get one or two of the larger communal bins, I rang to ask where these would go.
I was told they would use “the communal car park”. We have no such car park and the limited car space we do have is already inadequate.
After weeks of asking my ward councillor to visit me, I bumped into him at his Neasham surgery with several concerns – the main one was resolving the bin situation.
Imagine my astonishment when he told me to contact the press.
This is not what I expected.
Councillor Nick Wallis, the councilor overseeing the project and a leading advocate of the plan, told The Northern Echo recently that “councillors must consult with residents, I don’t want anyone coming back to me next year saying they have not been listened to” (Echo, Oct 1).
Perhaps he will call and see me to resolve our concerns. It’s clearly beneath my councillor.
It is high time ward councillors were made to live within the wards in which they ride the gravy train and the Lib Dems out here remember that they only won the last local election by 38 votes.
Miss M Edwards, Hurworth.
