SURELY it is time to reduce the number of unemployed EU migrants and shut the benefits door on people seeking an easy life at the expense of British taxpayers?
Recently a mother-of-ten from Latvia, who receives £34,000 a year in benefits, caused outrage after demanding that Boston Borough Council, in Lincolnshire, gives her a larger home (Echo, Sept 22).
That £34,000 in benefits would be worth more than £50,000 to someone working for a living and paying their taxes. It’s also a lot more than the average salary.
What is to prevent every unemployed person living in the EU making their way to any part of the UK to draw benefits and then demanding their families be given subsidised housing?
We already have a massive shortfall in affordable homes to buy and rent throughout the North-East.
