ALTHOUGH I am not a golfer I would hate to see an amenity such as Stressholme golf course, in Darlington, close.
Then again, I hated the closure of Darlington Arts Centre (nobody seemed to question why it cost quite so much to run).
I also regretted the loss of Darlington museum.
However, I write mainly to complain about the justification for publishing the article by Councillor Heather Scott, the leader of the Conservative group on Darlington Borough Council (Echo, Sept 19).
It was introduced as a right to reply to an earlier piece by Councillor Bill Dixon about why Stressholme golf course was under threat.
I read the piece hoping that it would make politically acceptable, constructive, alternative suggested solutions.
Instead it acknowledged the council’s views and criticised them for not showing imagination – while offering nothing of substance.
The article was wholly political and a consequent waste of my time.
How could you have let her get away with this?
Ian Harrison, Darlington.
