FURTHER to my letter criticising Salafi Muslim extremists (HAS, Sept 21), I should explain that the “counterjihadis”

I referred to are rightwing Christian fundamentalists like the Koran-burning Pastor, Terry Jones, and the makers of the Islamophobic propaganda video, Innocence of Muslims.

Ralph Musgrave (HAS, Sept 18) accuses those of us he caricatures as “Britain’s politically correct” of being quick to condemn the extremism of the BNP, but reluctant to criticise Muslims.

It should now be clear to him that I condemn all forms of violence, extremism, racism and prejudice, regardless of the political or religious persuasions of the instigators.

Pete Winstanley, Durham

IN his usual response to deflect basic facts, Pete Winstanley provides a well-researched response to my letter on forgiveness (HAS, Sept 21).

What he does not tackle is the point I make: how come we are asked not to generalise when an Islamic outrage occurs but when an alleged Western outrage occurs all Westerners are targeted for reprisal rather than just the perpetrators?

Why are the goal posts different from one side of the religious divide to the other?
