IN his usual response to deflect basic facts, Pete Winstanley provides a well-researched response to my letter on forgiveness (HAS, Sept 21).

What he does not tackle is the point I make: how come we are asked not to generalise when an Islamic outrage occurs but when an alleged Western outrage occurs all Westerners are targeted for reprisal rather than just the perpetrators?

Why are the goal posts different from one side of the religious divide to the other?
