I AM in full agreement with N Staff’s letter (HAS, Sept 17) about the music played by our radio stations.

Sadly, there is very little choice of music played on the radio these days. Real and Star, among other stations, play the same songs every single day and their “golden hours” only seem to go back to 1980.

It’s as if music did not exist before the 1980s while, in fact, most of the best music was composed before then.

Different genres of music receive poor coverage on all stations. BBC Radio 2 and local station Bishop FM dedicate only one hour per week to folk, blues and brass, etc.

It’s up to music lovers to keep the old songs alive. Radio stations have turned their backs on non-commercial music.
