SPENNYMOOR County Councillor Martin Jones says he has decided to resign from the Liberal Democrats because of the way his party is now working with the Conservatives in government (HAS, Sept 11). Now he plans to remain on Durham County Council as an Independent.
This councillor was elected by a majority of Liberal Democrat voters to represent their views.
He was not elected as an Independent.
The correct course of action, therefore, is for him to resign from the council and put himself forward as an Independent candidate in a by-election.
Perhaps this would be a bridge too far for Coun Jones.
