DURHAM and Darlington Fire Service is proposing to build a new station on the outskirts of Durham which is “affordable”
(Echo, Sept 5), and it welcomes people to the consultation on September 14 and 15.
I do hope the service has learned its lesson following the construction of two stations at Spennymoor and Bishop Auckland in 2010. These cost the taxpayer is £1.4m a year over 26 years through a PFI scheme. I don’t know whether the tax payer would consider over £30m for the construction of two stations to be “affordable”.
