ALL that remains of the Attlee government’s legacy is the welfare state and the National Health Service.
Over the intervening years all governments have made changes to the NHS so that members of the Attlee government would not recognise what they created.
Bigger hospitals with wards closed, internal services privatised, nurses trained at university and not within the NHS where they would meet and treat real patients – one could go on.
People voting for the Labour Party in 1945 demanded “no return to the 1930s” but that is exactly where we are today.
The welfare state is to be changed to the detriment of those in need.
Both the Government and the Opposition have a list of changes to “reduce the cost of the welfare state” and those changes must be resisted.
