I READ with interest councillor Stephen Harker's letter regarding local authority cutbacks (HAS, Dec 3).
Clearly, he doesn't like anybody upsetting the feeling of "we are doing the best for Darlington" that some councillors have in this town.
His letter doesn't mention the massive overspend on the town centre pedestrianisation scheme or the massive overspend on the cross town route - both mismanaged by our fantastic council.
The majority of council taxpayers are treated with contempt while people who don't pay just get let off at the end of the year.
I had a letter threatening me with court action for a bill that was three days late. When speaking to the lady about it I was told I was in arrears, she should really have understood what arrears meant before quoting it.
So Darlington Borough Council keep up the good work and many thanks to our local coucillors, who always seem to have selective memories.
