I SEE in the various councils’ cutbacks that a number of public toilets have been included.
Well, what happens when a coach-load of elderly visitors arrives in one of our market town and, to their horror, find the public toilets closed? They cannot possibly squat down in the market square to do relieve themselves.
So what happens next? Think about it.
Also, I see so many councils are having to cut back on the number of lollipop schools crossings patrols (Echo, Nov 28).
Many of these personnel are older people who rely on this extra cash to supplement their pensions.
I know councils are trying to save money, but surely a compromise could be reached on this matter? I shouldn’t think you’d get many voluntary helpers doing the same job, standing out in all weathers for nothing.
Roland Bramham, Richmond.
I THINK it is diabolical to replace lollipop men and women with voluntary labour. Who will organise the volunteers?
The Government seems to give little thought for the safety of our children. Their main concern is the saving of money, which they spend unwisely causing even more problems.
Mrs Rutherford, Darlington.
