I HAVE been approached by a driver who received a £60 parking ticket from Excel Parking Ltd which controls the Iceland Car Park, in Spennymoor.
The two cases that I was involved with when this area was owned by Netto ended with the fines not being enforced.
On this occasion, the driver claims he left and returned within the time permitted.
Could it be that the camera monitoring the car park does not pick up every entry or departure, due to the cars being in a tight queue?
I have contacted Excel and asked them to reconsider the parking ticket.
All this does is deter local shoppers, who inform me that they want to boost trade in their own town.
Can I ask Excel to review its enforcement action. A £60 parking ticket is a severe punishment for senior citizens.
Iceland and other shops in this area are very popular. However, this parking issue could severely damage local shopping trade.
Councillor Ben Ord, Spennymoor.
