THE Occupy movements do nothing more than demonstrate a mood. Anti-capitalism is just a slogan.
It is no substitute for hard thinking about what the answers are for the unfairness, inequality and lack of social justice in our society. It will not be successful without a wider consultation about what needs to change.
We need to have a correct sense of proportion.
What is happening here is not dissimilar to what has happened in Arab countries, but the significant fact is that in those countries the ordinary people are up against rabid regimes whereas in the country we have the opportunity to make our views known through all the democratic facilities we enjoy.
What is important with the facilities we have to express opinion and be heard is that those who seek to give leadership from the grass roots point to coherent solutions.
