READING Sharon Griffiths’ column (Echo, Nov 11) I was angred by her remarks about having to “chip in” to public sector pensions.
I worked in the public sector for 40 years. You took a low paid job because it was supposedly secure. That is not the case now.I also bought The Northern Echo six days a week for those 40 years and have continued to do so for the 15 years I have been retired.
So have I not “chipped in” to her husband’s, sons’ and her own pension.
Another point she raised was the shocking youth unemployment figure which I agree with.
Would it not be a good idea to stop people retiring, presumedly on a good pension, and then allowing them to come back to do the same job, only on a parttime basis.
I am sure there are plenty of young people who would like to train as journalists.
