REGARDING the letter by H Foster about the crisis in the Eurozone (HAS, Oct 31). He hopes it won't lead to a two-tier EU.
Has he not noticed that the EU has been at least a two-tier operation for decades.
Until the advent of the euro, we had France and Germany, and the rest - two tiers.
After that, we had France and Germany, the rest of the Eurozone, and those who did not join the euro debacle, three tiers.
So what is likely to change?
This crisis might well lead to a Eurozone where Germany calls all the economic shots, and rules the rest of them, even France, with an iron fist.
This really would be bad for all of us outside the Eurozone.
Germany will be able to tell the other 16 countries which way to vote on any issue, and the remaining 11, including Britain will be out-voted.
Britain, far from being where the Europhiles want us, "at the heart of Europe", will be on the edge and marginalised.
Unless we want to surrender what little is left of our sovereignty to Germany and join the Euro.
Derek Thornton,
