THE Work Programme was supposed to be tailored to the individual’s needs but it is clear that is not so.
There is apparently no type of proper training or qualifications to be offered – unless, of course, you count creating yet another CV, attending “transferable skills” workshops and filling out endless psychological tests.
All of this can be done at the Jobcentre at no extra cost , so why waste £5bn on a privately run work programme?
I don’t think the Jobcentres are very pleased with the introduction of the Work Programme as they are no longer allowed to do a personal job search with any fortnightly signer currently on the scheme.
And it is all down to the greedy bonus culture – unbelievable as it may seem Jobcentre Plus and Work Programme are actually working against each another Personally, I think the money and resources should have stayed at Jobcentre Plus.
Instead the Tories have dished out their usual dose of medicine by farming out the unemployed like cattle to profit hungry private companies who gain great pleasure in exploiting the unemployed.
Once you have been unemployed for a short while there is very little to look forward to on this programme – two years of intimidation and threats of benefit sanctions and 180 hours of unpaid community work.
